Tips on How to Obtain Forklift Certification
Most manufacturing companies are requiring forklift drivers to get their certification so they can have assurance that their employees are not just well-trained for the job but are also well-versed in safe usage of the equipment. The certification process has a lot of routes involved but basically, you will need to undergo training specified for forklift operators and you will also need to pass an exam.
The Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) will not issue certification for operators who have not gone through appropriate training and those who haven’t passed the exams.
Here are the things you need to furnish before getting OSHA’s approval:
First and foremost, you need to complete professional forklift training courses that will usually be given by the company’s supervisor. The courses will include proper usage of the tools, basic safety regulations, and detailed explanations about the parts of a forklift. The training sessions will also give you time to watch videos relevant to the course. A written test by the end of the course may also be required.
After the basics have been discussed and you’ve passed the first level of training, a practical forklift training course will follow. This is the perfect time to show off everything you’ve learned from the classes. This is crucial stage that you need to get through.
Finally, you have to get evaluated based on the results of your written and practical exams and if you fail any of these two, you will have to go back and re-do everything again. In the case that you pass both tests, you will immediately obtain a certification card.
Remember that getting a certification card is different from receiving company certification so you still need to obtain the latter so you can be assured that you’re abiding by OSHA regulations.
For company certification, you need to enroll in a forklift certification training school where you will get more in-depth training and once you accomplish the exam that the school requires you to take, you will obtain your company’s forklift certification.
You also need to remember that a company’s official certification will expire after 2 to 3 years. You will have to renew your company’s certification after this period expires. Within this period, you can use the certification for manufacturing, construction, or warehouse purposes.
A forklift certification ensures that you won’t be in the face of the law in the near future but it also strengthens safety in your business’ premises. Accidents will be lessened and you can save money on employee care costs.
It is every business owner’s responsibility to make sure every forklift specialist is well-versed in handling the equipment and every process in the business abides by the standards of the law.
The process for forklift certification may get stressful at times but it will surely give you fruitful returns for the investment in the long run.
